We had done a lot of research before deciding on this frother, and also watched quite a few product videos on the web to get a feeling for how a particular frother worked in reality. In the end we had three to pick from: The Froth Au Lait Frothing Unit, White or Black, the Capresso frothPRO, and the Nespresso Aeroccino Plus.
While all three products were generally reviewed well, the reason we finally decided on the Aeroccino Plus was the speed with which it produced its froth and the ease of cleaning. A video we watched on the Capresso frothPRO revealed that this frother took around 4 minutes, sometimes even more than that, to make froth. In comparison, the Nespresso Aerocchino takes but 1 minute 20 sec, give or take. And while the Aerocchino Plus is not dishwasher-safe, it can be fully immersed in water, making cleaning very easy and fast, especially with its non stick surface. In contrast, the Froth Au Lait frother is a one-piece unit where the glass carafe cannot be detached from the actual electrical part. One look at that, and I concluded that this wasn't working for me. Also - what if I accidentally broke the carafe?
The Aeroccino Plus is not only fast and easily cleaned, it is also incredibly quiet and simply produces the best hot or cold froth (using the whisk-like stirrer), and hot milk (with the paddle stirrer).
The one thing I would like to mention is to pay attention to the instructions and really rinse out the unit after each use. Not doing so can lead to spillage during the second round of frothing, and/or sticky milk patches on the inside of the Aeroccino, making cleanup harder and probably not contributing to the longevity of the product.
If one sticks to these simple guidelines, the product delivers beautifully every time.
